Ten man York bite back ...

Carlisle boss Keith Curle took over at Brunton Park one year to the day but he was given a frustrating afternoon to mark the occasion as he watched his side allow a two-goal lead to slip against ten-man York City.

An early long ball forward brought a flick from Kennedy and an outstretched leg dumped Sweeney on the floor as he tried to burst through. The free kick from Grainger smashed into the wall as he went for goal.

York tried to build up a head of steam as they started to push the ball forward early but Raynes and Miller coped as the home side seemed to concentrate on the right flank.

Determination from Ilesanmi eventually brought a corner when he bustled his way past Dicker to give Berrett a chance to cross. The set piece was eventually cleared to Summerfield but he volleyed a poor effort wide.

A deep free kick from Grainger brought a flick from Ibehre which wrong footed the defence but Miller couldn't keep his nod back across the face of goal down, and it bounced just in front of the advancing forwards as they tried to make up the space.

The Minstermen almost took the lead when Berrett was given time to thread a pass through to Turner inside the box. He spun and spotted Thompson, but there were groans from the home crowd as a wild shot from just ten yards flew over the bar.

Patience proved to be a real virtue for the Cumbrians when they grabbed the lead on 26 minutes with an incisive move. Sweeney started things off when he eased his way inside off the left flank and a pass from Dicker invited Gilliead to go on a run. He beat his man and, with the option to shoot, he chose instead to put it on a plate for right back Tom Miller to bag his third of the campaign with a firm side-footed finish.

Penn put a fizzed 25-yarder over when a gap opened up for him, and United had to defend their goal for a long spell ahead of the break as the Minstermen tried to claw back the deficit.

A long throw from Miller sparked a great spell for the visitors as York struggled to clear their lines. A corner followed and shots from Raynes and Kennedy were blocked as blue shirts queued up. A lobbed clearance resulted in an unbelievable pass on the volley from Dicker which Gilliead pounced to meet. His deflected shot sat nicely for Archibald-Henville and he was mobbed by his team mates as he calmly stroked it into the back of the net.

Carlisle had to take care as York came out of the blocks quickly at the start of the second half and Dicker did well to recover and head the ball behind as a whipped cross threatened to find Oliver.

If the big striker was disappointed not to get the ball on that occasion he was even more disappointed moments later when he was dismissed for violent conduct following an altercation with Michael Raynes as the corner delivery came in.

A very deep cross from Ilesanmi briefly lifted home spirits as Winfield tried to make it count, and York were right back in it when Balanta and Summerfield tussled inside the box. The pair tumbled and referee Nick Kinseley wasted no time at all in pointing to the spot. Summerfield dusted himself down to thunder the penalty kick away.

And the ten men stunned the visitiors just moments later when substitute Emile Sinclair made it the byline before cutting the ball back. Carson arrived late to toe poke it past Gillespie's dive.

Sweeney went close when he broke through at the other end, but the United stopper was in action again as he dived at full stretch to beat away a Summerfield free kick.

A Miller shot was blocked in a goalmouth scramble in time added on, but Carlisle had to settle for a share of the spoils courtesy of a crazy two minute second half spell.
