SIGNING: Left back signs deal

20 June 2014

Local lad becomes first summer signing

United manager Graham Kavanagh has completed his first signing of the summer as experienced left back Danny Grainger returns to Cumbria to join the club on a one-year deal.

Grainger, 27, has spent his playing career north of the border but spent his formative years with the Blues as part of our Centre of Excellence programme.

The Penrith-born defender has enjoyed spells with Gretna, Brechin (loan), Dundee United, St Johnstone, Heart and St Mirren during his 12-year stay north of the border and spent a short trial period at Brunton Park in pre-season last year before joining Dunfermline.

“This is a fresh challenge for Danny and it’s one I know he is looking forward to,” manager Graham Kavanagh said.

“It’s his local club and I know, from talking to him, that he is determined to make an impact. He’s another who is aggressive, who has ability on the ball and who likes to attack as well as do his main job of defending.

“Hopefully this is the start of freshening the group up as we look to push on from when we all get back together in July.”

We'll have more reaction from the manager and from Danny Grainger on the official website this weekend.
