TRANSFER: Striker signs deal

25 July 2013

Guy commits to Cumbrians

Penrith-born striker Lewis Guy has completed his successful trial period with the club by putting pen-to-paper on a one-year deal, with an option for a further year, this morning.

Guy, 27, teamed up with the Cumbrians with the blessing of his previous club, St Mirren, at the beginning of July and has impressed manager Greg Abbott with his application and performances throughout the run of pre-season games.

The former-Newcastle, Doncaster and MK Dons front man scored his first goal in a blue shirt at the Warwick Road End during the Burnley friendly last weekend and has already forged a promising understanding with fellow striker Lee Miller.

“Lewis genuinely wants to be at the club because he has told us it’s the happiest he has been with his football for a long time,” manager Greg Abbott said.

“He’s settled well with us this summer and I think he likes the fact that he’s one of the senior players in the group. He thinks he can help these lads and when you see him chasing after causes like he did last weekend and on Tuesday night, it makes it hard for others not to follow that lead. That’s a great asset for us to have at our disposal.

“We have different types of forward now and that gives us options. We can play with two up top, we can go with a three or we can push our wide men further in. There’s some pace and some real penetration there, so things are looking better than they were for us even just a week ago.”

We’ll have reaction on the official website from Lewis Guy on Friday morning.

This transfer remains subject to international and Football League clearance.
