NHS: We urgently need blood

6 May 2023

It will be located near the Blues Store and Study Centre and will offer supporters the opportunity to get their vaccination on the way into the game.

Bookings are not required for any pop-up sites or the vaccine bus, and first and second vaccines are available to anyone who is 16 or over.

If attending for a second vaccine, please ensure that this is no less than eight weeks after your first vaccine dose. Full details and information about vaccinations can be found HERE.

People in Cumbria are still being urged to take advantage of COVID-19 pop-up sites and a vaccine bus has been visiting areas in the county to encourage more people to get the jab.

It is particularly targeting anyone who may have had difficulties in visiting the existing traditional sites.

FACE IN THE CROWD: Remaining cut-outs now displayed at Brunton Park

13 September 2021

In his update last week Cumbria's Director of Public Health, Colin Cox, said: “As many will know by now, although the chances of someone in this age group falling ill or being hospitalised is low, it’s not impossible and the virus may then spread to more vulnerable family members.

"It’s clear the vaccine is having an impact however and keeping deaths and hospitalisations down. Therefore, I urge those who haven’t already done so to get vaccinated as soon as possible.”

On supporting the NHS North Cumbria initiative, chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: “We all know that Coronavirus hasn’t gone away.

“The number of cases of COVID-19 in Cumbria rose sharply again last week. There were 1,903 new cases recorded over that seven-day period, which was an increase of 20% compared to the previous week.

“We were contacted by the EFL in late July to say there was a nationwide NHS initiative looking for the support of EFL clubs to help with the vaccination programme.

“Thanks to the EFL alerting us, we immediately put the club forward and we are now delighted that Carlisle United can help play its part in continuing the fight against the virus.

“We have previously seen Brunton Park used as a testing site at the height of infection [click HERE as a reminder of that initiative] so we want to continue to do what we can.”

The team will be offering the Pfizer vaccine, but will have limited Astra Zeneca and Moderna for seconds where there has been at least an eight-week gap.

Mohammed Altayar is the clinical lead pharmacist. He said: “We are excited to be at Brunton Park on Saturday. It will be a great opportunity for people to support your team and ensure you are protecting your community.

"We know lots of people have already had both jabs, but we also know some people may have put off their seconds, or have been thinking about having the jab at all.

"We will happily chat to anyone about the vaccine if they have any questions, and we hope to be busy with people taking the opportunity to have it.”

The team will not be able to vaccinate anyone who has drunk alcohol, so if you want to take up the offer of the jab please avoid drinking before the match.

Watch an appeal to fans from Deputy Chief Medical Officer Vincent Tam about vaccinations here:

In the video he talks about respecting each other, but also emphasises the protection the double-dose of vaccinations gives to those who have had them.

United's players and staff had a video meeting this week to outline the benefits of being vaccinated, encouraging them to take up the option if they hadn't already done so.
