Goalkeeper Harry Lewis spoke to us following our victory in Burton.
When asked how it felt to pick up a long awaited three points, Harry said: “It feels good. That's why we play football, to win games and as a goalkeeper I’m here to keep clean sheets. I haven't done so yet, I’ve been pretty disappointed in myself and us as a collective, having not taken a point in my time here. The league position doesn't change but I’m going to enjoy it.”
The shot-stopper secured his first clean sheet in Tuesday’s win at the Pirelli Stadium and had the following to add: “The overriding emotion is probably relief, I’m aware that we’ve only kept one all season, we’ve been struggling and you want your goalkeeper to be there in the big moments, I’m quite critical of myself and I possibly have not done that so far.
“Tonight when the team needed me I was there and that gives me a sense of pride and satisfaction.”
The Blues went in at the break 1-0 up and when asked what Paul Simpson’s message was at the interval, he said: “Just stay positive. If you look back at Saturday, we went 1-0 up and there was a sense that we sort of sat deeper and deeper and thought that’ll do, I still thought at 1-0 up today that we played where we could and were brave on the ball.
“It was just a case of being professional tonight, we knew we were coming here for a scrap, we know what they’re about and I’m really proud of the way the lads stood up to that to be honest.
“We’re a good team technically and I think what we’ve maybe been lacking is being a bit streetwise, being a bit more aggressive and a bit more physical.
“It feels really good to get one over the line today.”
Speaking on United’s travelling support, Lewis said: “It’s brilliant because it’s a Tuesday night, it’s a long way to go, we get a nice hotel and stay overnight and these guys are finishing work and getting on the road.
“It’s important that they come and support us, we’ve not given them much to shout about, let’s be honest.
“I hope they can have a bit of satisfaction that they saw a team today who were fighting for the shirt.
“We go again on Saturday, that’s the beauty of football at this level, you go Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday quite often and when you’re losing that's hard because you need to break that chain and we haven’t done that for a while.
“It’ll be nice to go into a game as winners, I hope we can carry that confidence and momentum into the next game and build on it.
“Like you say, it’s my first clean sheet, but I believe it’s the first of many.”
Despite not getting the required results in recent weeks, United have shown signs of improvement.
“This might sound really daft sat bottom of the league, but I truly believe we’ve got a really good squad here. There’s a lot of ability in that room, good characters, good people and for whatever reason it hasn't really clicked for us just yet.
“Whilst things are mathematically possible, you have to believe.
“I think a display like this tonight, you can take positives from it and we can look to build on it and that’s our job to make sure it isn't just a blip, it isn't just a one off and show that we can do that again.
“We face another tough test at the weekend and we’re going to have to be at it again on Saturday.
“Having a bit of confidence is fantastic and it’s just about keeping this going as long as possible.”
